Program Abstract
Training is the one thing firefighters can do in a controlled environment. This module discusses factors influencing training safety and recommended practices to mitigate hazards and lower the risk of firefighter deaths and injuries while training. Factors considered include department culture, training evolution design and administration, training facilities and acquired structures, instructor requirements, the safety officer's role, student needs, and safety practices during training exercises. This module provides general recommendations applicable to many types of firefighter training.
This is an awareness-level module. Users are encouraged to seek additional in-depth training on designing, implementing, and administering fire training exercises safely.
